ORAM – Organization for Refuge, Asylum & Migration

Today’s global refugee crisis is one of the most pressing issues of our time. Millions fleeing persecution or armed conflict are seeking safety in refugee facilities as transit points or long-term homes. An untold number of these refugees are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTI) persons for whom true safety must include a level of understanding among refugee professionals often missing in a crisis environment.

Creating this understanding is the primary work of the Organization for Refuge, Asylum & Migration (ORAM). Since 2013 ORAM has trained over 2,000 refugee professionals in 13 countries. In 2016 ORAM will present trainings and capacity building workshops in Turkey, Greece, New Zealand, Australia and Israel. These trainees are the frontline in protecting the human rights of LGBTI refugees and educating staff on these rights.

Support ORAM’s 2016 trainings and capacity building workshops in Turkey, Greece, New Zealand, Australia and Israel. Your $25 donation to ORAM will support one hour of legal assistance for LGBTI refugees stranded in Turkey or one hour of LGBTI training for refugee professionals.

Our Mission – Protecting the World’s Most Vulnerable Refugees

ORAM’s mission is to assist the international community to protect exceptionally vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers. We conduct cutting-edge research, training and empirically based assessment programs for refugee professionals around the world.

We work closely with the governments of refugee receiving countries, the United Nations, local and international NGOs, and academic institutions. Through our capacity-building programs, we train thousands of professionals in refugee protection and adjudication. Governments, international agencies, and refugee communities alike trust ORAM to provide expertise under ever-changing and challenging conditions.

In the past two years, we have trained over 1,500 refugee professionals and officials at dozens of refugee agencies in Australia, India, Israel, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Senegal, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, the U.S. and others. Our training, tools and published materials have reached thousands of refugee professionals and millions of refugees worldwide.

Our Vision – A World Where Exceptionally Vulnerable Refugees are Safe

Guided by our values of diversity, acceptance, commitment and integrity, ORAM fosters global protection of exceptionally vulnerable refugees through collaborative international efforts.

ORAM works closely with international organizations, governments, respected academic institutions and faith-based groups to effect systemic changes that enhance protection of the world’s most vulnerable refugees. Among the displaced, some are especially vulnerable because of their age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, health, disability, or because they are still at risk of persecution. The perils these refugees face are extreme: rape and mutilation of children, enslavement of women, and execution of sinners, apostates and infidels.

Until difference is welcomed and people are no longer driven from their homes by intolerance, ORAM will continue to protect those who must escape to survive.
