An independent expert on sexual orientation and gender identity from the United Nations will spend 10 days in Cambodia to evaluate LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) rights in Cambodia. Hailing from Costa Rica, Victor Madrigal-Borloz, who assumed the role of UN Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity on January 1, 2018, is visiting Cambodia from January 10 to 20, at the invitation of the Cambodian government. His visit, covering Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Battambang provinces, is part of the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations.
