Police in Santiago told Reuters the parade was “massive,” but did not give participation figures. The LGBT community wants Chile to approve equal marriage or the adoption of children by same-sex couples. The South American country established in 2015 the Civil Union Agreement to legally regulate homosexual and heterosexual couples who are not married. This year marks 52 years since the riots of June 28, 1969 at the Stonewall Inn bar in New York, recognised as the trigger for the struggle for gay rights around the world.
