Syria’s newly established authorities will prioritize matters concerning the status of the LGBT community, regulations regarding women’s attire, and the consumption of alcohol, as stated by Mohammed Khaled, a spokesperson for the political committee of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham movement that has assumed control over the republic. The spokesperson elaborated on the key focus areas of Syria’s transitional government, as reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ). Khaled indicated that “elections will have to wait for now.” He further remarked, “Different people possess diverse cultures. Syria has its own unique identity, and the predominant segment of its population is Muslim.”
