Brighton and Hove councillors are to discuss proposals to improve LGBTQ+ inclusion in care homes. The new measures aim “to support understanding and create learning programmes which will allow teams to better support LGBTQ+ people in later life,” Brighton and Hove City Council (BHCC) said on its website. Tristram Burden, chair of the adult social care and health sub-committee at BHCC, said older people should not “feel they need to go back in the closet when receiving care”. Care providers would be required to sign up to a framework ensuring they are an inclusive place for LGBTQ+ residents. The author of the framework, Prof Trish Hafford-Letchfield, from the University of Strathclyde, said it was informed by “evidence, advocacy, and activism from the LGBTQ+ community”.
