Pride, Juneteenth flags to be raised at Richmond City Hall

The Juneteenth and LGBT Pride flags will be raised at Richmond City Hall on Monday, June 1, in a ceremony that the public can view via Zoom here. The City of Richmond Diversity Celebration Month Flag Raising Ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. Featured speakers include Mayor Tom Butt, City Manager Laura Snideman, Councilmember Demnlus Johnson III, Richmond Rainbow Pride co-founder Cesar Zepeda, and Selene Calderon of The Latina Center. In celebration of diversity month in June, the event will recognize Juneteenth, which commemorates the abolition of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865; LGBT Pride Month, which commemorates the Stonewall riots by members of the LGBT community against a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in the Manhattan borough of New York City on June 28, 1969; and Immigrant Heritage Month, which commemorates the contributions immigrants have made in the U.S.
