On April 23, the film “Pride” showcased for an audience of approximately 100 people in Flex Theatre in the HUB-Robeson Center at 7 p.m. Directed by Matthew Warchus and based on a true story, the film focused on the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) alliance. The group formed in 1984 and supported British coal miners who were on strike. These members were the National Union of Mine Workers. At the beginning of the movement, the miners did not support the LGBT community and wanted nothing to do with LGSM. LGSM continued to show support. By the end of the strike, miners began to support gays rights in Great Britain. In 1985, the minors even led the London Gay Pride Parade. “Everyone needs to band together for change to really happen because if everyone doesn’t, nothing will happen,” said Marek Mierski, a sophomore majoring in film, in response to the film
