Dozens of LGBTI activists in Turkey held a protest in central Istanbul calling for justice after the brutal and gruesome murder of trans woman Hande Kader. The 23-year-old trans woman was found covered in burns in a forest after she went missing last month. Numerous activists and allies gathered together to pay tribute to Kader and raise awareness of how trans people are treated in Turkey. On one large banner, it read: ‘We want to die of natural causes’. Police with water cannons were on duty nearby to suppress the activists. No arrests have been made so far in Kader’s case. A sex worker, she was last seen entering a client’s car one night.
