The Taoiseach has said he intends to tell Pope Francis that Irish people regard households headed by same-sex parents as families when he meets the pontiff at Dublin Castle later this month. Asked what he would say to the Pope about the shunning of gay families by the World Meeting of Families, Leo Varadkar said he would express “our view as a society and as a government that families come in all sorts of different forms and that includes families led by same-sex parents”. Pope Francis is visiting Ireland for the Catholic church’s triennial celebration of the family.
