Firing teachers for being gay will remain legal in certain NSW schools after equality advocates relented in the face of a concerted campaign from some faith groups. Independent MP Alex Greenwich defended the compromise, saying urgently needed protections centred on the safety and dignity of transgender people, sex workers and rainbow families could become law.
