Cardiff University has been criticised over an alleged lack of support for students with mental health issues after two members of an LGBT group took their own lives. The comments were made during an inquest into the death of a student who died on October 25 last year. Jack Liam May’s body was recovered from the River Taff in Cardiff . The inquest at Pontypridd Coroners’ Court on Wednesday heard how Mr May, 20, was one of two members of an LGBT group at Cardiff University to take their own life. Mr May’s friend Tomos Evans told the inquest about the help on offer at the university’s counselling and wellbeing services. He said: “It’s severely short-staffed and they don’t have enough resources to accommodate students who have long-term mental health needs.
