A 32-year-old Black gay man is in critical condition after being shot multiple times by a police officer in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Isaiah Brown was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher on April 21 due to a family dispute when a Virginia sheriff’s deputy shot him. According to 911 audio and body camera footage released by the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, Brown was heard arguing with his brother and repeatedly told the dispatcher, “I’m about to kill my brother.” The dispatcher then asked whether Brown had a gun, and he did not give a clear answer. Shortly after, Brown was walking outside while holding a cordless house phone when the dispatcher repeated the question of whether he had a weapon, to which he responded, “no.”
