As they campaign to overturn a 2016 law that bans discrimination against transgender individuals in public places, opponents of the so-called “bathroom bill” say their concerns are about safety and privacy. A review of campaign finance reports shows much of the support for the effort to repeal the law are conservative groups that have opposed LGBT rights. Keep Massachusetts Safe, the ballot committee behind Question 3, raised about $367,135 as of Oct. 1, according to the state Office of Campaign and Political Finance. Nearly one-third of its contributions came from Carol Breuer, of Winchester, who gave $100,000, according to the disclosures. In the past, Breuer has supported the political action committee of the Christian conservative Family Research Council. The Colorado-based Family Policy Alliance chipped in $10,000 to the campaign, the records show.
